My Chemical Romance es un grupo estadounidense de rock formado en el año 2001. La mayoría de sus miembros son de Belleville y Kearny, Nueva Jersey.

El género musical del grupo es difícil de definir, considerando además que en cada álbum presentan ciertas diferencias. En sus inicios, su estilo era claramente post hardcore, pero en la actualidad se les ha colgado la etiqueta de banda emo, que ellos han rechazado, llegando incluso a despreciar ese género. Para su último disco, The Black Parade, presentaron un sonido más elaborado, clásico y característico de los años 70, aunque en el próximo planean hacer algo más puro y crudo. Entre sus influencias están diversos artistas como Black Flag, The Misfits, The Smiths, Morrissey, The Cure, Iron Maiden, Pixies, Queen, y Pink Floyd.

Llevan vendidos más de 4 millones de discos en Estados Unidos, y más de 10 millones en todo el mundo.

El nombre del grupo es frecuentemente abreviado como “MCR” y llamado “My Chem” por fans. Viene de un libro escrito por Irvine Welsh llamado Ecstasy: three tales of chemical romance (en español Éxtasis), y fue sugerido por Mikey Way, bajista del grupo.

Dicen que uno de los mensajes por los que apuestan en sus canciones es el no tener miedo a vivir, idea que se ilustra en la canción “Famous last words”.

The Black Parade es el tercer álbum de la banda My Chemical Romance, que se lanzó internacionalmente el 23 de octubre de 2006. Como los dos álbumes anteriores de la banda, éste es un álbum conceptual y una ópera rock, centrándose alrededor de un personaje conocido como “El Paciente”, quien sufre a una edad joven de cáncer al corazón.

El álbum es producido por Rob Cavallo, que ha producido la mayoría de los CD de Green Day desde 1994. También es el primer álbum con Bob Bryar en la batería. Muchos críticos han visto el álbum como un espectáculo, y ha tenido una crítica generalmente favorable. La caja de la edición especial del álbum, fue nominada a un premio Grammy.

La banda dice que el nombre “The Black Parade” fue elegido debido a la creencia de que la muerte llega a los individuos en la forma de su más poderoso recuerdo en vida. El personaje principal en el concepto, fue a un desfile con su padre a una edad muy temprana, por lo tanto la muerte viene a él en la forma de un desfile negro. Gerard Way dijo que este álbum nos dice que disfrutemos la vida, ya que es corta, algo que el Paciente no hace, él odia su vida. El álbum fue mostrado en su totalidad el 19 de octubre de 2006.
